About Common Fire Co-ops & Communities Support Common Fire Homepage

The Nuts & Bolts

Once the sale of the Tivoli Housing Co-op was complete in 2014, the Common Fire Foundation shifted its focus dramatically, limiting itself to providing basic support for the Beacon Co-Housing community.  The Foundation previously had a much more expansive vision of helping to support the creation of numerous intentional communities nationwide that shared our values related to communities as a foundation for personal and collective transformation.  The information on this page represents our PREVIOUS more expansive vision and is provided here in the hopes that it may help to support or inspire other people’s efforts in this field.

Timing and Time

We encourage people to begin the program with one of the Be Present Empowerment Model trainings, usually held in February and August, though we can often accommodate people starting at another time as well.

Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis, so prospective participants can begin the application process at any time.

Who’s It For?

No matter what issues you care most about -- from education to prison reform, from health care to domestic violence, from drug abuse to the environment, from economic policy to racism -- and no matter how you try to impact those issues -- through your work, by volunteering or making donations, by helping to educate people, or by simply treating others with kindness and respect -- this program can help you be more effective and fulfilled.

Cost

The actual cost for us to host each training runs over $150 per person. However, thanks to significant donations to the Common Fire Foundation of time and money we are able to offer the trainings on a sliding scale basis, usually from $70-$120. Scholarships and work-trade opportunities are also available.

People who join the certificate program pay for a set number of trainings up front and receive a discounted rate.
